How To Lay ONE-DNA Artificial Grass

Fitting our pioneering ONE-DNA turf requires a different approach to standard artificial grass due to its unique composition and flexible properties.

Tools Required To Lay ONE-DNA Artificial Grass

If you are wishing to achieve the best result for your artificial turf installation, the following tools are necessary:

Preparation:

  1. Sub-base needs to be stable and permeable to water;
  2. Always use rolls from the same production batch;

Standard Installation:

  1. Prepare base, using a geotextile below stone base;
  2. Install Vertedge® at perimeters, set 10mm away from edge, using quick set cement;
  3. Install layer of shockpad if playground scenario;
  4. Roll out the artificial grass;
  5. Lay it with approx. 5-10 cm overlap on the perimeter edges;
  6. Allow the carpet to settle for a period of time;
  7. Pin the carpet in centre and stretch toward perimeter using a carpet kicker, 30cm’s from perimeter and pin, working one side at a time;
  8. Joints: Position second section of grass to be jointed;
  9. Cut off 2-3 tuft rows of both sections;
  10. Pin the area to be jointed to prevent movement;
  11. Glue the seams with recommended adhesive;
  12. Roll the seam with a seam roller for maximum adhesion;
  13. Put weight on the seam (sand bags) to ensure strong bonding;
  14. Apply a specialist high-grade sand infill (e.g. Garside 2EW) for stability, using a drop spreader and power blower. IMPORTANT: Apply from inside to out with at least 50% of the required total infill;
  15. Remove the pins once sand applied and area is stable;
  16. Trim the perimeter edges in and fix at leading edges (i.e. up to paths, patios) with galvanised nails. For best results using Vertedge, allow +5mm overlay on grass and tuck into gap with bolster or lino knife (securing with adhesive at leading edges);
  17. Apply the rest of the infill (concentrating on perimeters);
  18. Brush and blow to neatly finish the project.

Top Tip:

Ensure you use a sharp blade on the knife when cutting and trimming. Due to the backing on this product you must regularly change blades for the best finish.

Important Notes

  • For larger projects, follow these same steps but work section by section, infilling as you move across the area.
  • Although ONE-DNA meets the EN 13746 standard for stability, it can still react to temperature changes like other artificial grass. This requires extra attention in larger projects. On multi-day projects, ensure that the installed area is sanded with at least 50% of the required infill before leaving the site.
  • Do not disturb joints during first 72 hours after install.
